Akonni has developed a portable automated DNA/RNA purification platform, the TruPrepR Automated Sample Preparation System, which can homogenize difficult samples such as sputum, stool and tissue, followed by concentration and purification of nucleic acid. The unit comes with the option for an enclosed cabinet with HEPA filtration for Class 1 bench top use, and is small enough to fit within a Class 2 biosafety laminar flow hood for secondary containment. The TruPrepR runs up to 8 samples in parallel. Purified nucleic acids from the TruPrepR have been demonstrated to be compatible with downstream diagnostic approaches such as qPCR, dPCR, electrophoresis, isothermal amplification methods (i.e. LAMP, HDA, TDA), line probe assays, microarrays, and sequencing.

The main design features include 1) the MagVor™ homogenization and lysis step for difficult sample types, 2) a heating block for traditional chemical and or heating lysis and decontamination, and 3) the TruTip technology for nucleic acid concentration and purification from small to large volume samples, all at a highly competitive instrument price and consumable cost.
