Many bacteria have an impact on the nature, extent, and fate of environmental contaminants, either through direct or indirect biological activity. Current methods for monitoring microbial community dynamics either do not provide the necessary breadth of coverage for important functional groups, or they are too expensive and slow to provide real-time, actionable information for site engineers or regulators charged with site reclamation, stewardship or closure.
TruArray BER assay is the first molecular field-portable microbial surveillance and indicator technology for same-day testing and monitoring of environmental samples undergoing in situ bioremediation. The assay detects 35 of the most common bacterial genera associated with in situ remediation of heavy metals, radionuclides, organics, chlorinated solvents and DNAPLs in a single assay, from a single sample. Functional groups include metal-, sulfate- and nitrate-reducers, dechlorinators, and fermenters.
