Sample Prep

Akonni’s sample prep technologies offer a unique and flexible approach to obtaining valuable nucleic acids from a wide range of specimen types. MagVor^TM is Akonni’s patented, magnetically driven bead homogenization technology that effectively homogenizes complex sample matrices and facilitates cell lysis. TruTip is Akonni’s revolutionary technology that simplifies sample preparation by combining all of the complex protocols of DNA or RNA purification into just a few simple steps. Microarrays

At the core of Akonni’s portfolio of technologies lie the proprietary three-dimensional “gel drop” microarrays. The 3D gel drop arrays, which are the basis of Akonni’s TruArray product line, have been developed and optimized out of an exclusively-licensed intellectual property portfolio. This portfolio includes 28 issued patents and 90 peer-reviewed publications supporting the underlying microarray technology. More recent innovations include Akonni’s unique microarray biochip designs – simple, yet elegant microfluidics, which allow PCR amplification and hybridization within the custom microarray chamber in a closed-amplicon, fully contained format.

Imaging and Software

Following thermal cycling and washing, the arrays must be imaged, and the fluorescent signals detected. Akonni has developed a proprietary microarray imager, based on a combination of off-the-shelf products, and in-house developed, custom technologies. It includes automated analysis software that captures and analyzes an image of the 3D gel drop arrays to determine the presence or absence of specific molecular targets of interest.

In order to complete the process, the signals from the array images must be converted into quantitative data, and then analyzed and translated into meaningful results. In order to make this as user-friendly as possible; Akonni has developed custom, proprietary analysis software, which automates this entire process, delivering accurate results to the user in a matter of seconds.
